Lamplighters
Lamplighters is the nation's only highly selective SAT preparation and college success skills program. Created in 2003, Lamplighters teaches you how to stay in college once you get there, how to be an independent learner, and how to light your own way in the world.
More Than a Number
Every test prep program available in Tucson focuses on the numbers. But in Lamplighters, your child is more than a test score, because we view our students exactly as a selective admissions committee would: a unique individual with interests, strengths, and something to contribute to a college campus. With college admissions more competitive than ever, test scores are no longer enough to get into college. That's why Lamplighters coaches students in application strategy, essay writing, resume writing, finding and winning scholarships, interview skills, and test-taking strategies for AP exams.
How to Stay in College Once You're Admitted
With college dropout rates on the rise, the real test of college is not getting in but getting out with a degree. Lamplighters is the only program that prepares you for what's beyond the admissions gate through training in college study skills, self-discipline, time management, organization, goal-setting, and leadership.
SAT Preparation Second to None
Big test prep companies cater any student whose parents will write a check, so they frequently teach remedial students, which makes it easy to raise scores. In contrast, Lamplighters guides those who are already average (scores of 500 on any given section) or at the first standard deviation (600) and moves them to the second (700) and third (800), scores which are statistically harder to earn because fewer are awarded. That we do this is an indicator of the quality of our unparalleled, research-based instruction.

Lamplighters offers caring, professional preparation from certified, award-winning teachers with years of experience from right here in the Old Pueblo. In contrast, test prep companies hire untrained undergraduates and call them instructors after only hours of training. Because all classes are teacher or owner-taught, you can be assured you are receiving the best instruction available. Lessons are educator-designed to suit the learner best and are based on current scientific and educational research.
Admission
Admission to Lamplighters requires an application and EITHER a nomination by an educator at their school (which you received by being given a packet at school) OR a written recommendation mailed to Lamplighters, c/o Emily Mitchell, 855 East River Road #117, Tucson, AZ 85718. If your application is accepted, you will be contacted within one week for an interview, the final step of admission.
